The “Encuentro Colombiano
de Fotografía” was born in Medellín on 1987. The “Academia
Cultural Yurupary” promoted it as a program that pretended
to gather all kind of people related to photography, in
order to tighten the laces of friendship and cooperation.
Between 1991 and 1997
the event was celebrated in different cities of the country,
under the guidance of the Asociación Colombiana de la
Fotografía (ASFOTO) and on 1998 came back to Medellín,
its origin city, in order to become an autonomous organization
without commercial or lucrative intentions.
The Encuentro Colombiano
de Fotografía is inspired on the highest ideals of confraternity
and peace, with the purpose of leading all kind of actions
tending to tighten the laces of friendship and to stimulate
the development of the photographic sector, in benefit
of the country’s economy, art, science and culture.
The “Encuentro Colombiano
de Fotografía” is a place where amateurs, professionals,
students, members of photographic organizations, artists,
businessmen, importers, and in general, all kind of people
related to the image industry, have an opportunity to
meet.
The event, turns around
an academic program that embraces many photography aspects.
It is developed by a qualified group of Colombian and
foreign experts, with a big dose of confraternity, giving
place to informal contacts between the participants.
During the “Encuentro
Colombiano de Fotografía” there’s a great amount of activities
evolved on an open environment, full of friendship; very
appropriate to make business, exchanges, cooperation projects
and all kind of actions that tend to the progress of Colombian
photography in all it’s levels.
The “Industrial and Commercial
Fair” is the biggest photography fair in the country,
also we have a program of photography shows with more
than 30 exhibitions.
During the event’s opening,
the Colombian Prize of Photography is granted to a person
who has distinguished itself by his or her contributions
to the Colombian photography in the fields of the art,
the science, the culture or the economy.
On 2004, the event had
a the participation of near 600 people from 46 different
cities of the country and 5 outseas cities..
